VoiceXML Solutions and SB2VXML® Conversion
Tool
Avaya IVR (Interactive Voice Response) Platforms now support VoiceXML
solutions. Beginning with Conversant V9, which remains on the UNIX
platform, Avaya now provides the option of creating applications
in VoiceXML code (versus TAS). This option is also available on Avaya’s
new Sun Solaris IR platform as well.
VoiceXML enables application developers to extend existing Web applications
to include voice interaction. So in essence, Avaya IVRs can now seamlessly
integrate with existing Web driven solutions. Since many companies
already use XML (Extensible Markup Language) for their Web applications,
the skill set for VoiceXML is readily available, which makes it much
easier to develop and maintain these voice applications.
VoiceXML also uses the same means of interconnectivity as web driven
solutions, so IVRs will no longer require custom Data Interface Processes
(DIPs), usually written in C language, to access information from
databases. VoiceXML applications can interpret JavaScript code, and
exchange data freely via the Web infrastructure.
By supporting VoiceXML solutions, customers that still have older
Conversant systems (V6.1 and V7) with applications developed using
the Script Builder tool, now have a low cost migration path to the
new platforms.
In February 2003, we introduced a Script
Builder to VXML Conversion Tool that converts Script
Builder applications into VoiceXML native code. Using LeadingC’s
tool, Script Builder applications can be converted in less than
2 weeks. The converted VoiceXML application can be in production
in about 4 to 6 weeks. LeadingC has been converting Script Builder “modules” for
free to demonstrate the capabilities of the conversion tool. This
VXML code will work with any IVR browser that is VXML 2.0 compliant.
Conversion to VoiceXML
Application Development: LeadingC can develop VoiceXML applications
using any off the shelf tools (SCE – Service Creation Environments)
such as IBM VisualAge R4 and Eclipse.
Speech Files: We can convert the Conversant ADPCM/PCM encoded speech
to corresponding wave files (supported in the converted VoiceXML
code).
External Functions: LeadingC can convert Conversant application
related external functions (found in /vs/bin/ag/lib/ directory) into
functional ECMA scripts and/or JSP code.
DIPs (Data Interface Process): LeadingC can develop JSP/servlets
and/or ASPs to replace any DIPs or function logic associated with
DIPs supporting the Script Builder applications. LeadingC can develop
interfaces to MQ Series middleware, WebSphere App Server Business
Logic and Sybase MD Gateway to name a few.
Screen Scraping: Custom interfaces are being developed to support
SNA3270 software. Customers also have the option to use TN 3270 messaging,
which can be implemented by LeadingC.
Training: LeadingC can provide on site training on how to use standard
VoiceXML development tools.
LeadingC specializes in VoiceXML solutions, and offers turnkey solutions
for IVRs that support VoiceXML. Please contact me for additional
